Supervalu Inc., the parent company of the Albertsons supermarket chain, has suffered sharp losses recently, including $1 billion in fiscal 2012. Minnesota-based Supervalu decided to close 60 stores nationwide, including 18 in Southern California as it tries to overcome operating losses and stiff price competition from competitors.
