Newest figures on UK retail sales are certainly unsatisfactory. The unprecedented chilly weather in March had a negative impact on retail sales as it significantly discouraged British customers to go shopping. Thus the ONS survey also added to disturbing signs about the UK economy.

News from the British Retail Consortium bodes well for UK retail and designer merchandisers. Struggling in the past few months, the news of 3.7 percent growth in March is certainly promising. The same-store sales climbed by roughly 1.9 percent on a year-on-year basis, but still the figure is encouraging. The BRC also noted that February’s growth in total sales amounted to around 4.4 percent and for same-store the rise was approximately 2.7 percent.

Americans boosted their spending in September, buying everything starting with Apple Inc.’s iPhones and ending with new cars. Even though few sectors are weakening, certainly the consumer economy is gaining strength. Data shows that U.S. retail sales grew approximately 1.1 percent, giving hope that the upcoming holiday shopping season will be successful for the U.S. retailers.

The month of May brought sunshine to the United Kingdom, in more than one way. As per the Office for National Statistics, the Retail Sales rose by 1.4 percent against the prediction of 1.2 percent, which led to an annual rise by 2.4%. While clothing and footwear were the show stoppers, plus food and drink also doing fairly well, the big tickets on the other hand had to suffer with restrained shopping, if not dwindle, on account of the reserved minds for jobs and economy as a whole.

The Commerce Department said Monday that there was 0.8 percent rise noticed in retail sales increased 0.8 percent, after rising 1.0 percent in February. Some of the increase went to higher gas prices. U.S. Consumer spending accounts for more than two-third of its economic activity.
