The president of Boeing Jim Allbaugh signed an agreement with Frederico Curado of Embraer after the annual meeting of a public-private partnership group that ties the two countries together. This deal clearly would increase the competitive pressure on Airbus.

Boeing, the aerospace industry leader, announced Wednesday, that it would move out of Wichita and completely shut its plant in Kansas by the end of 2013 as military assignments dry up in the midst of U.S. spending constraints. This would surely affect the aerospace industry in Wichita. Back in February the city and state leaders held a grand celebration.

Space travel may no longer be restricted to astronauts as industry leaders around the world are working to develop commercial space flight and to make space tourism the new thing to do over winter vacation. Just how close are we to making space tourism and commercial space flight something that the middle class can do, instead of just the extremely wealthy?

For those that already have a robust aviation industry, another way to take the aviation industry further is with green aviation. Boeing is taking this idea further by partnering with Hawai'i BioEnergy for the development of a green aviation fuel based on renewable energy sources. The two companies will look at various crops, including sorghum and eucalyptus as potential sources that can be grown locally and converted to green aviation fuel. The collaboration will also look to assess new supporting technologies for additional green aviation production.
