Delivering Global Icons
Produced By Rachel Allen
About a century and a half ago, a giant water reservoir was built on the famous Malabar Hills, in an Indian city then named Bombay – by a company called Littlewood Pallonji & Company.
Over time, that company has grown to become the Shapoorji Pallonji Group of Companies, evolving into a massive conglomerate, with a global footprint, spanning verticals like construction, real estate, infrastructure and water. Shapoorji Pallonji is the name behind some of the most iconic buildings and structures that dot the architectural landscape of India. The creme de la creme of manufacturing, services and other industries have reposed their faith in Shapoorji Pallonji to deliver world-class quality consistently and unfailingly.
Over the next hundred years, the company’s expertise has been repeatedly showcased on projects which involved a major advance in construction technology or whose size was beyond the capacity of most others. Blessed with a rich legacy and heritage, it has marched into the new millennium with modern management skills, state-of-the-art technology and the ideals of innovation and customer satisfaction.
Like the city of its birth, the company has grown and expanded at an unparalleled pace in the last century to its present status. Shapoorji Pallonji is a firm that is proud of its past. The company today is not only a leading force within the country but abroad as well. It has been an achievement for the group to sustain its name at the forefront of the construction industry over the years.
Today when a brick is laid by Shapoorji Pallonji, the client knows that the highest quality and safety standards are going to be met.
The company has adapted to changing times and has accelerated the momentum of its growth by using modern management skills with innovative state-of-the-art technology.
Moving resolutely forward the company is poised to raise the bar even further in terms of quality, safety, reliability and integrity.
The reputation of being one of the most respected construction companies, has won them projects across the globe. It all started in the 1970’s when Shapoorji Pallonji was asked to build the Palace for the Sultan of Oman. Representing sheer and regal fantasy, this project was the first international project for any Indian construction company. Besides constructing the main residence of the Sultan, we also erected his court, the Ladies' and Children's Wing, Guest Wing, Palace Office, Prayer Hall, Swimming Pool, and an imposing helipad on the roof of the court. Even today they have a full team, which maintains the palace.
Shapoorji Pallonji has the distinction of being associated with Ebene Cyber City, Mauritius’s Leading Technological Hub. It is the only building in Mauritius with direct fiber optic connectivity. Little wonder then that it was awarded the 'Most intelligent building in the world' award by ICF at New York.
Another construction in Mauritius is the Les Pailes Exhibition Centre, an important cultural venue. Kabul Serena Hotel, Afghanistan was one of our most challenging projects. Located in the center of the city, the Kabul Serena Hotel overlooks the famous Zarnegar Park and is close to embassies and ministries. The hotel now plays host the most distinguished dignitaries who visit the country.
Other prestigious projects in the international arena are the the President’s Palace in Ghana (Africa) and "Bab Al Bhar" a 5 star luxury hotel in AbuDhabi.
