Even as claims that the iPhone 4S is not much of a device do the rounds, facts and figures tell another story. The iPhone 4S was unveiled only a day before Apple inventor Steve Jobs passed away and most industry pundits said the phone felt the phone fell short of the expectations everyone has from Apple. Unlike the previous versions of iPhone that had stunning new features and design changes each time, and not to forget that they were launched by Steve Jobs in his trademark charismatic manner, the iPhone 4S opened to lukewarm reactions.
But, even as the industry was prepared to see the first ever (in a long time) failed product from Apple, the market statistics prove otherwise. The iPhone 4S has sold a whopping one million units in its first 24 hours! The record beats the previous record held by iPhone 4 for selling 600,000 units on the first day.
And an even more astounding fact, coming from none other than the horse’s mouth itself- the Apple corporation, is that the iPhone 4S is the fastest selling product launched by Apple in the “iDevices” series- ever! Just goes to show that with Apple, nothing is predictable!
Clues about the devices success have been present from the day it was launched, though most industry experts and tech gurus failed to take them into account. When the launch event was announced, the Apple website crashed as a result of the phenomenal response! The same held true for cell-phone carriers’ websites offering pre-order booking options. Most reported that their payment servers were close to crashing because of the orders and payments pouring in.
Despite the “not so hot” reviews the device received in the first few days, there are some great things about the phone. Design-wise, the features are the same as the previous model, the iPhone 4, but internally, the company claims “it’s all new”. The improved camera is one of the new features. But the real attraction is the introduction of Siri– the all-new, no-holds-barred voice assistant. With Siri, iPhone 4S users can do just about everything- make calls and send text messages, search the Internet, make entries, store memos and whatnot.
As skeptics wonder if the reason for the sky-high sales might be the outpouring of grief over Steve Jobs death, one thing is true: Apple has delivered a success worthy of the great man who made it all possible!
