According to Martin Learn, president and founder of Home Energy Systems, the plenteous availability of free sunshine has got a growing number of San Diego homeowners to earn financial and environmental rewards by choosing the solar electric (photovoltaic) industry as their energy provider.

“Installing a solar energy system in a home is an investment that will provide an immediate lowering of energy bills and will provide up to 30 years or more of lower energy costs for homeowners,” Learn said.

Home Energy Systems, a complete service provider of photovoltaic energy products and systems, specializes in cheap alternatives to utility power that include the sales, design, installation and supervising residential, commercial and governmental energy systems. Since the past 12 years it has designed and installed some 500 quality solar solutions in San Diego.

Learn, who is a seasoned specialist in solar technology and NABCEP-certified (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners), said he lives off through the utility-grid, exploiting free and ample energy from the sun. For 32 years he has studied and promoted renewable energy technologies. While Learn started his business, the solar installation expense was much higher.

However, with module prices declining, efficiencies growing, the bipartisan passage of a 30 percent federal tax credit for solar installations and a newly introduced cash rebates through the California Solar Initiative to drive additional savings, the industry has seen incredible solar growth says Learn.

Add in the advantages associated with fuelling an electric vehicle with free solar energy and the savings continue. A watt of power produced today will be worth even more in the next 10 or 20 years. Energy prices aren’t going to subside therefore solar investment returns keep raising.

“I’ve seen demand for solar energy increase 30-50 percent nearly every year,” Learn said. He is devoted to helping San Diegans identify their true solar potential. To him, that means training homeowners on the questions to ask to ascertain properly-licensed professionals, who use excellent quality solar products available to meet their needs. A popular website has a list of questions which Learn has identified to assist consumers find a qualified solar professional.

"Solar products may look similar, but the quality and performance of today’s solar offerings can vary widely, with solar panel efficiency ranging from 14 -21 percent,” Learn said.

SunPower modules are used by Home Energy Systems, whose 25-year workmanship and power production guarantees are the best in the industry. And this year, Home energy Systems delivers a free power back-up system with each qualifying solar installation. This helps conserve perishables and charge PCs, phones, flashlights and appliances in the event of a day-time power cut, all the while ensuring a safe passage into the night should power not be quickly restored.

Besides financial savings, going solar offers many advantages, including enhancing a property’s value and protecting an owner from future electrical rate rises. With new financing options that include $0-down, interest-free or long-term financing and lease arrangements solar is easily affordable to  more homeowners than ever.
