All the speculations surrounding the next generation Nexus smartphone point to the same direction: that Google is indeed preparing to launch its Nexus devices alongside the release of Android 7.0 Nougat. The rumour mill suggests that the upcoming Nexus devices will be HTC-made. And similar to its predecessors, the upcoming devices are aimed at delivering high end specs and a pure Android experience.
The only question is when will the American tech company release it and will the devices come with the super-hyped Android Nougat mobile operating system (OS)? According to latest rumors, the device is likely going to be released this August, which basically is less than a month from now and is much earlier than the scheduled timeline.
Similar to last year, the company is coming up with two variants this year, both of which will be manufactured by HTC. Even though the specifications of both models are expected to be the same, there will be a difference in the display size and also they are smaller than their current-gen Nexus offerings - with 5-inch and 5.5-inch models claimed. Reports indicate that the upcoming Nexus devices are being codenamed HTC Marlin M1 and HTC Sailfish S1 internally. The bigger brother, HTC Marlin M1 featuring a 5.5 inch screen has already surfaced online, suggesting there's some serious firepower in store.
HTC Marlin M1 Specs
Likely to be the successor of the Nexus 6P, HTC Nexus 2016 Marlin M1 smartphone was recently spotted on GeekBench benchmarking site. It managed to pull-off a score of 2084 in single-core tests, and 4969 in multi-core tests. The GeekBench test is a clear index that the 2016 Nexus devices will pack some great specs.
As far as key specs are concerned, the supposed HTC device will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and run on a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon processor, which is most likely the latest Snapdragon 820, clocked a speed of 1.6GHz. The device is expected to come with a 2,770mAh battery, 4 GB of random access memory (RAM) and include 32GB or 128GB internal storage, USB Type-C port and a fingerprint reader. It will run on Android 7.0 Nougat (Android N) and also supposed to include two speaker grills at the bottom of the device. On the camera front, the handset is said to come packed with a 12-megapixel rear camera enabled with LED flash alongside an 8- megapixel front facing camera.

The second Nexus smartphone HTC Sailfish will supposedly sport a 5-inch screen, a quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front facing camera. Rumors also suggest a 2,770mAh battery and USB-Type C charging.
