An unlikely name ? Sure. And yet, Cupcake Vodka, by Underdog Wine & Spirits, makers of Cupcake Vineyards wines, the US’s fastest growing $8+ wine brand in 2010, won the Best of Show Award at the very prestigious New York World Wine & Spirits 2011 competition.

Offered in four flavours, Original, Frosting, Chiffon and Devil’s Food, Cupcake Vodka promises to deliver four decadent treats, while maintaining the highest level of purity of flavor.

Cupcake Vodka: Making the Cupcake

The Cupcake Vodka has been developed by Underdog’s International Director of Winemaking, Adam Richardson, in direct consultation with renowned master of spirits and wine Doug Frost.

Richardson said he was “humbled” by the award, which is “a testament to Cupcake Vodka’s super clean quality that consumers will be proud to share with family and friends”.

“When we set out to make Cupcake Original Vodka, our goal was to craft genuine, non-flavored Vodka with unsurpassed smooth taste. We start with the finest grain and grape, and then distill it six-times to remove impurities. This delivers a silky, creamy texture that has become synonymous with the Cupcake brand,” he added.

The delicious new vodka comes in eye-catching sapphire-blue bottles and delivers “velvet silkiness, distinctive texture and a smooth finish”, according to Doug Frost, just the way vodka lovers like it.

“They capture purity of flavor to achieve a super-premium taste”, said Frost.

Available at a retail price of $17.99 per 750ml bottle, the Cupcake Vodka, with its motto to “live deliciously”, aims to provide a reasonably priced super-premium product in a super-premium package towards maximizing value.

The Makers

Cupcake Vodka has been launched by Underdog Wine & Spirits, a unit of The Wine Group.

Self-proclaimed underdogs of the “sometimes stuffy wine and spirits world”, the company has fast become recognized as a leader amongst emerging wine and spirits brands of the new millennium.

In collaboration with domestic and international producers, the Underdog Wine Merchants have crafted unique adult beverages, which also figure as some of today’s most dynamic growth brands, such as Cupcake, Fish Eye, flipflop, Big House and Octavin.

According to Todd Ziegenfus, Senior Marketing Director, “Cupcake continues to offer products to help consumers Live Deliciously… “We are always looking for opportunities to meet the needs of our core consumer: the adult millennial. We tested several concepts and confirmed that nothing met that personal reward shared with friends better than Cupcake. Our research indicated that a super-premium product in a super-premium package at a reasonable price will provide value that will resonate with our target.”

Produced through the combined expertise, enthusiasm and achievements of winemaker Adam Richardson and Master Sommelier as well as Master of Wine, Doug Frost, Cupcake Devil’s Food Vodka also won a gold medal at the competition.
