Continuing to be a fully independent family firm to this day, Chopard is one of Switzerland’s best known luxury watch, jewelry, and accessories manufacturing company. Founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in 1860, Chopard, to start with, focussed on using innovative ideas towards developing precise pocket watches and chronometers.
The company diversified and expanded within the luxury wrist watches and jewellery markets after its relocation to Geneva in 1920.
Considered to be a manufacture, i.e., a watch fabricator which makes all or most of the parts required for its products in its own production facilities as opposed to assembling watches using parts purchased from other firms, Chopard has witnessed spectacular growth since its inception 150 years ago.
Over the years, Chopard has developed a variety of watch collections, including quartz and mechanical timepieces, gem-set and technically complicated models, classic and sporty ones including Mille Miglia, L.U.C., Happy Diamonds, Happy Sport, Happy Spirit, Classiques, Your Houre, La Strada and Haute Horlogerie. Its highly creative products, state-of-the-art technology used in producing these and the excellence of its craftsmen have made Chopard one of the leading names in the high-end watch and jewellery industry.
Chopard is currently led by goldsmith and watchmaker Karl Scheufele, who took over the company from Paul-Andre Chopard, descendant of founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard.
With Chopard having grown to become a company with a 2010 revenue of €108.9 million, Chopard’s makers believe that the company could not have become what it is without a precise and rigorous set of governing principles.
The corporate values that have emerged from the implementation of these principles, are all firmly rooted in the family spirit, and, guided by common sense and loyalty, form the backbone of this leading watch-making company.
In full recognition of the fact that its personnel are the beating heart of the company, Chopard has given top priority to training its artisans. With production processes that are constantly improved and upgraded so as to continue delivering the highest quality of products, Chopard encourages and supports creative innovation at all levels.
The company is firmly dedicated to excellence at all levels of the production process, right from R&D, to the level of design and manufacturing sophistication imparted to the product, to customer relations and the brand’s global communication.
Chopard’s vast reservoir of in-house expertise has helped unite more than 45 different crafts withing the fields of watch and jewellery making. As a result, each model, each variation, and each one-of-a-kind Chopard creation, has its own story.
Fleurier Quality Foundation
One of Chopard’s joint projects with Parmigiani Fleurier and Bovet Fleurier brands, as well as the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, the Fleurier Quality Foundation seeks to establish new aesthetic and technical criteria dedicated to the certification of finished watches.
The Fleurier Quality Foundation is a certification that defines a normative requirement for the market and the final customer to have a better definition of quality watch-making, adapted to today's demands and technological advances and certifies a very high level of quality to manufactured watches.
Giving Back to Society
With a firm belief in giving back to the community and hence showing respect for society, Chopard has made significant contributions within the field of medical research, has taken part in different charitable events and helped a number of foundations.
Over the years, Chopard has committedly cooperated in the fight against AIDS, and worked closely with Sir Elton John for furthering the cause of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Chopard launches limited-edition Elton John watches to benefit the foundation, while also co-sponsoring the charity events annually held by the foundation - Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party, White Tie & Tiara Ball and An Enduring Vision.
Caroline Scheufele, presently the co-president of Chopard worldwide, is responsible for supporting other charity organizations such as the International José Carreras Foundation involved in the fight against leukemia and the Sabrina foundation for sick children. The Sheufele family is also involved with The Prince Charles of Wales foundation donating timeless Chopard pieces as a symbol of their dedication to the Prince's cause.
