“The next chapter in Apple’s story,” says Tim Cook, smiling as he took the stage to announce the two highly anticipated devices of the year. Since he took over the reins from late Steve Jobs as chief executive in 2011, Wall Street analysts and investors have waited for the day when Apple products would finally have Tim’s ethos all over it. And now, finally, Apple fans have witnessed an entirely new product under his leadership, a smartwatch, the Apple Watch. “It’s worth the wait,” Cook said. “Apple Watch is the most personal device Apple has ever created.”

The Apple Watch will be available early next year with prices starting at $349 and could go more for much higher editions. The only fail here, several people tweeted is that you need an iPhone to connect to the Apple Watch. “This has got Tim’s fingerprints all over it. He’s clearly the one who guided and directed this,” said Tim Bajarin, a tech analyst who was at Tuesday’s Apple event. “I think a little bit of Steve is still in there, but this is basically now Tim’s project, and he’ll be judged on its success.” Apple’s fanfare on Tuesday at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts was a magnificent event that featured redesigned OS, refined smartphones and tablets and a closing act by U2, the Irish band. Cook, at the event revealed that Apple had been considering the Apple Watch for years, along with larger iPhones. “We didn’t make the first mp3, smartphone or tablet. But you can say we made the first modern mp3, smartphone and tablet,” he says. “And I think now we’re making the first modern smartwatch. So I think that from that point of view, history is repeating itself. When people look at the Apple Watch, it’s kind of hard to buy anything else. It all of a sudden defines the category.”
