France’s Peugeot has unveiled the 2017 Peugeot 5008 ahead of its much-awaited public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month. The fashionable SUV looks eerily French in all its glory. It seems the French car manufacturer has bid au revoir to its MPV-styled predecessor, as the all-new Peugeot 2008 enters as a 7-seater SUV. Unlike its counterparts, the all-new 5008 will be available with the option of all-wheel drive.
2017 Peugeot 5008 Design
The Peugeot badge (the lion logo), and one of the most enduring logos in the world sits in the center of the trapezoidal front grille. Its styling is heavily inspired by the 3008 crossover. The new 5008 has all the off-road style elements such as the long clamshell bonnet, black plastic cladding and roof rails.
The new 5008 could rival Nissan X-Trail, Kia Sorento, and Land Rover Discovery. Compared to the 3008, the SUV has grown in length by 19cms, its wheelbase is 16.5cm longer, and it stands at 1.64meters tall. The SUV dons a very masculine look with the hard-edged rear and the trapezoidal front grille. Its doors combine a dynamic and versatile appearance with protection.
Peugeot 5008 Interior
The interior has been significantly updated, and the entry-level 5008 will get the wraparound i-Cockpit as standard. This adds a 12.3 in Touchscreen TFT and 8.0 in the center console touchscreen. Every 5008 model comes with seven seats. All three rows have length adjustability, three-point ISOFIX anchorages, and five different angles of inclination.
The rear rows are decked with power sockets, blinds and trays on the back of the first-row seats, hooks and cupholders. You can minimize the boot space by removing the third-row seats. The third-row seats weight less than 11kg, so it’s easier to extract them. Additionally, you can integrate an e-Kick or e-Bike into the 5008’s boot.
Moreover, the 2017 Peugeot 5008 comes with features such as panoramic sunroof, massaging front seats, and an online satellite navi-system. It will also offer the latest drive-assistance and safety systems such as driver fatigue monitor, active lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beam, autonomous emergency braking, speed sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, part assistant and a 360-degree camera system, and active blind spot monitoring.
Premium models get an electric tailgate which can be opened by placing a foot under the rear bumper. Although, the feature is optional as you go further down the range.
Peugeot 5008 Engine
The all-new 5008 is available with a choice of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. It is available with two petrol engines. One is 163bhp 1.6-litre unit, which is automatic only. The other is a 128bhp 1.2-litre unit with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. While the two diesel engines come in -118bhp 1.6-litre with automatic gearbox or six-speed manual. The other unit is a 178bhp version of 2.0-litre (automatic only). The CO2 emissions are claimed to be at 108g/km.
The all-new Peugeot 5008 will officially debut at the Paris Auto Show. The 7-seater will be manufactured in Rennes, France and sales will begin in spring 2017.
