What is most astonishing part about the iPad era, is how completely Apple still controls it. The market was filled with plenty of Smartphone in 2007, when the iPhone came out and it quickly drew new competitors, most notably Android devices.

The evidence comes from sources within Apple’s supply chain, who say that OEM production of the iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011, but will decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads. Production volume will be in the 9.5-9.8 million unit range during the first quarter of 2012 for the iPad 3, which will begin in January.
