Mitsubishi Electric is celebrating 30 years of manufacturing variable speed drives. With unit sales of over 15 million frequency inverters worldwide, the company is one the world’s largest producers by volume, reflecting the quality of the products and the trust that customers place in the company. Frequently in-use 24 hours a day, every day, Mitsubishi Electric inverters are constantly proving their high levels of reliability, flexibility, functionality and cost-effectiveness around the world.

Mitsubishi Electric has continuously contributed innovations to variable speed drive technology. The latest power electronics and advanced software algorithms ensure the very highest levels of control in the most demanding applications. As climate change and increased fuel prices put the onus on energy savings, Mitsubishi Electric inverters consistently set new standards in energy efficiency, helping businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and save money.

As global standards and specifications emerge and evolve, Mitsubishi Electric has developed new products and technologies to fulfil the needs of users. As a case in point, the Machinery Directive has been setting the pace for safety in each iteration. Mitsubishi Electric has responded with innovative safety technologies and techniques that protect users and machines alike. Typical of these developments are the features included in the most recent product range to join the Mitsubishi drives portfolio – the FR-E700SC. This new series provides integrated safety as standard, with Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality and an advanced spring clip terminal design.

Safe Torque Off provides protection against unexpected motor start-up according to ISO 13849-1 Category 3/PLd and EN62061/IEC61508 SIL2. It helps to protect personnel and machinery by preventing automatic restarting of the inverter after a stop. It disables the drive signal to the motor without turning off the power to the inverter, ensuring that no hazardous motion is possible but enabling faster restarts to production after a stoppage.

The full product portfolio covers the power range 0.1kW up to 630kW. It starts with the FR-D700 series micro-drive that meets the needs of simpler applications in the low power range. For higher power applications requiring more sophisticated control, the FR-E700 inverter combines power and versatility in one of the most compact packages in its class. This is supplemented by the FR-F700 line which has been specifically designed for fan and pump applications. At the very top of the range is the FR-A700 series, offering the very highest levels of performance with the added benefit of integrated PLC functionality to simplify system design and embedded power regeneration to minimise operating costs.
